Understanding & Resolving Childhood & Adolescent Trauma
A 12-Hour CE Credit Training
Presented by Ashley M. Fronheiser, MSS, MLSP, LCSW, CRRTS, ASDCS, NBCCHF, CCTP-II
When Children Can't Explain What They're Experiencing
Children and adolescents often communicate distress through behavior, emotion, physical responses, or changes in relationships rather than through clear descriptions of what has happened.
Some young people can identify a specific event that continues to affect them. Others cannot. Their responses may reflect earlier developmental experiences, involuntary nervous system activity, learned beliefs, or reactions that occur largely outside conscious awareness.
This continuing education program explores these presentations through the Rapid Resolution Therapy® (RRT) perspective. Participants will examine concepts related to trauma, anxiety, perceived threat, autonomic nervous system functioning, and developmentally responsive communication while observing how these principles are applied within the RRT framework.
Throughout four live sessions, participants will engage in lecture, filmed demonstrations, guided discussion, experiential learning, and breakout practice designed to support clinical understanding and professional skill development.
Who This Training Is For
This training is designed for mental health professionals who work with children, adolescents, and families to:
Move beyond symptom management
Understand how trauma responses are actually resolved
Learn through direct observation of clinical change
Sharpen clinical perception and intervention skills
No prior Rapid Resolution Therapy experience is required. Registration is open to clinicians, professionals, coaches, practitioners, and individuals interested in understanding how trauma responses resolve and how change is facilitated.
What Makes This Training Different?
Many educational programs focus primarily on symptoms, diagnoses, or treatment planning.
This course examines childhood and adolescent trauma through the Rapid Resolution Therapy® perspective, emphasizing:
A non-pathologizing understanding of anxiety and traumatic stress
The role of perceived threat in nervous system activation
Developmentally responsive communication
Neurodivergent-informed clinical considerations
Authentic connection and shared intention
Co-regulation strategies
Guided visualization and experiential interventions
Practical application through demonstrations and guided practice
Rather than concentrating exclusively on theory, participants will observe clinical demonstrations, discuss practical application, and participate in structured learning activities throughout the program.
What You Will Learn
Participants will examine concepts including:
Understanding Trauma Through an RRT Perspective:
Explore how cognitive constructs, assigned beliefs, heart rate variability, and autonomic nervous system activity are discussed within the RRT framework.
The Three States of the Autonomic Nervous System:
Examine how the RRT perspective describes nervous system responses to perceived threat and consider developmental adaptations for children and adolescents.
Authentic Connection and Shared Intention:
Discuss approaches for establishing connection, developing shared intention, and supporting practitioner-client co-regulation.
Working with Children Who Cannot Identify a Specific Event:
Explore neurodivergent-informed approaches for working with children and adolescents whose distress is not connected to an identifiable incident, including consideration of pre-verbal experiences.
Moralistic Thinking and Social Contingencies:
Examine how belief constructs, shame, blame, pride, and social contingencies may influence emotional and behavioral responses.
Internal Geography and Identity:
Explore the RRT concept of changing internal geography as it relates to perceived identity and clinical communication.
Guided Visualization and Somatic Accelerators:
Observe how guided visualization and somatic accelerator interventions are incorporated within the RRT framework through demonstrations and discussion.
What People Are Saying about RRT…
“My clients love this approach and enjoy its use of multi-level communication. As my clients share their successes with others, referrals began to pour into my practice, nearly doubling it in a year’s time."
